Almond Blossom

Explore The Museum

Enormous bloom branches like this against a blue sky were one of Van Gogh’s number one subjects. Almond trees blossom right off the bat in the spring making them an image of new life. Van Gogh acquired the subject, the striking frameworks, and the situating of the tree in the image plane from Japanese printmaking.

The composition was a gift for his sibling Theo and sister by marriage Jo, who had quite recently had a child, Vincent Willem. In the letter declaring the fresh debut, Theo composed: ‘As we told you, we’ll name him after you, and I’m making the wish that he might not entirely set in stone and as fearless as you.’ Unsurprisingly, it was this work that stayed nearest to the hearts of the Van Gogh family. Vincent Willem happened to establish the Van Gogh Museum.

The Vincent Van Gogh museum remains a place of great interest for art connoisseurs and celebrates the artist’s work.
